Cookie and Browser Storage Policy

This policy covers cookies. It also covers anything else a website can store on your device, or read back from it, when you use www.thailandka.com. That includes browser local storage: a place your browser keeps small values for a website. Local storage is not a cookie — it stays on your device and is never sent to us with a page request. The European rule here, Article 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive, treats both the same way, so both of ours are listed below.

This policy is about what is stored on your device. It is not about the data your browser sends us so a page can load — your IP address, your browser type and the address you asked for. That is answered in what we do with data about your visit.

How the language cookie gets set. We write it when you use the language switcher. We also write it when the page you open is in a different language from the one your browser asks for — so following a link to a Spanish page while your browser asks for English sets it, even though you chose nothing. We would rather say that than claim you made a choice you did not make.

The appearance setting is different. We write it only when you use the light and dark toggle; until then we store nothing and the site follows your operating system. Your browser reads it locally: it is never attached to a request and never reaches our servers.

Nothing here is set by anyone but us. When another company stores something through a site you are visiting, that is a third-party cookie; there are none here, because no advertising network, analytics provider or social network runs on this site.

We do not show a cookie banner. That is a deliberate decision, and one we are glad to explain.

Under European rules we must ask your permission before storing something on your device — unless the storage is needed to give you what you asked for. Both of our items are. That is not only our own reading: Europe's data protection regulators looked at language cookies in their Opinion 04/2012 and exempted them, so long as they disappear when you close your browser. Ours does. France's regulator said the same in its 2020 guidelines, about storage that only remembers how you want a site to look.

Thailand gets to the same answer differently. There is no separate Thai cookie law, so storage like ours falls under the Personal Data Protection Act — and that Act protects information that identifies a person. A two-letter language code does not. Nor does the word light or dark.

There is a simpler reason underneath the law. A banner exists so a site can ask permission for what it does that you never asked for. We do not do those things. On this site there is:

• no analytics — nothing that counts, profiles or reports on visitors
• no tag manager — nothing that lets another company's code be dropped into these pages
• no advertising, retargeting or conversion pixel — nothing that follows you around the web with an advert
• no session recording or heat maps — nothing that replays your mouse or your clicks
• no A/B testing or personalisation — everyone sees the same site
• no chat widget, newsletter, sign-up form or account — nothing here asks who you are. What you set in the search controls travels in the page address, not in anything stored on your device.
• no cookie set by another company, and nothing that could recognise you on other websites

Our photographs are licensed from Unsplash and Pexels, and our typefaces come from the Google Fonts library — but your browser never connects to any of them. Our servers fetch the photographs and serve them back from our own address, and the fonts are built into the site when we build it. So none of those three is contacted by these pages, is told your IP address by us, or can set a cookie here. We check this every time we change the site.

The companies your browser does reach are the ones that deliver this site for us: our hosting provider, and Cloudflare, the network every request to www.thailandka.com passes through. They see what any web server sees — your IP address, your browser and the address you asked for — and neither stores anything on your device. Cloudflare also asks your browser to report network faults it hits reaching us; those reports go to Cloudflare and store nothing either. What we and they do with that data is in what we do with data about your visit.

We plan to be paid a commission by the booking sites we compare. That is not running yet: today the links out of this site carry no tracking codes, and we run no analytics. When we add them — a partner code on the outbound links, and a count of which comparisons people use — the section above will not cover that storage. It is not needed to give you what you asked for, and European regulators have said in terms that affiliate tracking needs consent.

From the day any storage on this site needs your consent:

• Nothing is stored until you have chosen — not beforehand, not while you decide.
• Refusing is as prominent, and takes as few clicks, as agreeing. Nothing is pre-ticked.
• You choose separately for each purpose — never bundled into accepting our Terms of Use.
• Changing your mind is as easy as agreeing was, through a link that stays on the site.
• You will never have to accept storage you do not need in order to use the site.
• The consent screen appears in the language you are reading, in all seven — never English only.
• The language cookie and the appearance setting stay outside it, because they remain exempt.

You do not need our permission, and you do not need to ask us. Every browser lets you inspect, delete and block cookies and site data — in most of them under Settings, then Privacy — and you can usually clear a single site from the padlock or icon at the start of the address bar. Clearing this site's data removes both items at once.

What you lose is small and predictable. Opening www.thailandka.com with no language in the address falls back to the language your browser asks for, and the appearance follows your operating system again. Moving between pages still keeps your language, because every page address here carries it. Nothing else disappears, because these two are the only things we store on your device — and Thailandka keeps working with cookies blocked outright.

The English text is the operative version. Translations are provided for convenience; if a translation and the English differ, the English governs.

That says which text is authoritative, not whether you understood it — and understanding is the part that matters here. This policy has not been translated yet. We intend to publish Spanish, Italian and Thai versions, at this same address. Until then, if anything here is unclear in your language, write to us and we will explain it.
